Nimbostratus is a dark grey cloud
formation, with a low flat base, it is often very solid and many thousands of feet deep. It
is associated with depressions and often produces heavy persistent rain, sleet or snow. The
precipitation can sometimes be visible as sheet of rain beneath the base of the cloud.
